Why Wellbeing?

Contemporary living as well as pressure on our environment have made a shift in our lifestyle and priorities crucial.

International organizations and academic institutions are increasingly becoming aware that wellbeing is an integral part of the world’s health, and is key to the progress of humankind and its societies, to prosperity, and the overall sustainability of our planet.

With this in mind, policies and events are being laid down which target:
a qualitative upgrade of the life of every human being
an evaluation of every country’s development against wellbeing terms and indices

WHO

Defines wellbeing as a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely as the absence of disease or infirmity.

UNITED NATIONS

Aspires to ensure healthy lives and promotes wellbeing for all at all ages, in alliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs-Goal ΙΙΙ).

OECD

Recommends a shift towards quality economic growth and seeks ways to increase wellbeing in this direction.

EUROPEAN UNION

Highlights the move towards political will and commitment to make wellbeing a key priority.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY

Created Well-Being Vaden Health Center for empowering people and societies to develop through education, networking, and a positive shift in mindset.

UNITED KINGDOM

Launched (2010) the National Wellbeing Program to start measuring the progress as a country not just against living standards but against quality of life.

NEW ZEALAND

Renamed its annual budget “Wellbeing Budget” to emphasize the need to improve quality of life of its citizens beyond economic growth.

ITALY

For the first time, in 2017, included wellbeing indices in its annual budget.

GREECE

In 2019 the Prime Minister announced in Parliament in his statement to the Government that Greece can “develop to become a worldwide center for wellbeing and good life”.
