Following the seminar "SCIENCE OF HAPPINESS AT WORK | Boost Commitment, Performance, Teamwork, and the Bottom Line" organized by Wellbeingr on November 2nd, 2023, at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club, in collaboration with the Greater Good Science Center of the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), an online follow-up meeting was held.
During the meeting, the lecturer of the seminar, Dr. Emiliana R. Simon-Thomas, Scientific Director at GGSC, referred to recent scientific research conducted in the field of happiness at work, focusing on the relationship between leadership and happiness. The discussion that followed allowed participants to exchange views on whether rising to the upper echelons of businesses and being recognized as "leaders" are linked to happiness.
Dr. Emiliana R. Simon-Thomas also addressed the three main factors of burnout in the workplace (exhaustion, ineffectiveness, cynicism), prompting the audience to reflect on how they deal with work challenges and how they affect their lives in general. A discussion followed during which views were exchanged on how to cultivate a happiness mindset at work as well as the difficulties that appear in conceiving and implementing work happiness plans and how these can be overcome.
The meeting concluded with Dr. Simon-Thomson emphasizing the need for further development of a community of like-minded business executives to raise awareness among the Greek professional public on issues related to happiness at work. This can be accomplished through a systematic exchange of views and experiences, aiming to create working conditions that foster people's happiness and wellbeing.
